Creating Beautiful Designs in Brick Paver Patios

When we are working with a new client on designing a beautiful brick paver patio, they often wonder why we recommend brick as our material of choice. There are a few reasons; they are durable, a good value, easy to install, and they come in a wide variety of shapes, colors and textures. This last detail, the variety, is probably the best reason we can think of, to use brick pavers over other materials for your Shelby Township home. Brick pavers allow us to create beautiful designs that you won’t otherwise get with other materials. Here are some awesome ideas for brick paver designs that we love.

Contrasting Edges

One of the best ways to draw attention to your patio, and make its beauty stand out, is to add a contrasting edge to your patio. A single layer of bricks along the outside of your patio will add dimension and appeal to your patio, without being too extravagant. Consider using a darker or lighter contrasting color for a bold look. If you want something subtler, bricks in a different shape or texture can give the same appearance. This is also a good way to add interest to your paver patio if your space is small or you are on a budget. You get something different without breaking the bank or overwhelming a small space.

Organized Chaos

If you love a particular color and texture of brick, but you don’t want your patio to look plain and simple, consider a patio that uses different sized brick, strategically organized to fill the space. Many brick manufactures will create different sized brick in the same color and texture. This size variety allows us to build a patio with a single type of brick, but keep it interesting by mixing up the size and shape of the brick. This design is subtle and very elegant, and is also a good choice for creating a beautiful design in a small space.

Random Placement

This is a new trend in brick paver patios, and is a great option if you have a very modern home. We can install your brick pavers in a random arrangement, and fill the gaps with sand, rock or mortar. This idea works best with larger brick pavers. Smaller pavers make this trend look messy. The lack of structure in this design is very appealing to some homeowners, but is not right for everyone.

Standard Structure

There is of course, the standard structured patterns such as squares, zig-zags, and herringbone type designs. These are popular with most of our clients because they give your paver patio a clean and classic look. The other nice thing about these standard patterns is that we have lots of practice with these designs, so your labor costs can be lower. If you like the idea of the standard pattern, but want to spice it up a bit, we would suggest mixing different colored pavers, or select a paver type that has variable colors that work well together, creating a unique yet structured look for your patio.
